I'm Canadian and can't vote for AI. I probably wouldn't anyway, I'm 43, have been a professional musican for 29 years. I'm a teacher and talk to my students about AI sometimes. 2 weeks ago, Fantasia sang "Summertime" in a way that hasn't been heard since the jazz divas of the 30s and 40s. Her tone, pitch, and most importantly, feeling, was nothing short of brilliant. One of the things that sets Fantasia apart from the other contestants is that she constantly "gets" the song. Fantasia stands head and shoulders above the rest in talent and attitude. The reason she could be so relaxed in the bottom 3 is because she knows AI is the beginning of her career not the end of it. It's the same reason she is willing to take chances in her performances while everyone else plays it safe. Because she can afford to lose AI. You put it all on the line to say "We love you Jennifer" and I guess that my saying that I'm proud of you just doesn't do you justice. I have studied the history of USA music - Scott Joplin, Louis Armstrong, Sidney Bechet, Besse Smith, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Edward Ellington, Count Basie, Rosa Ponselle, Marian Anderson, Maria Callas, Leontyne Price, Leonard Bernstein, Aaron Copland, Samuel Barber, etc....I am a fan/collector of Italian Opera and Classic Jazz Vocalists from the bee-bop era. I listen to very little that is popular now. But once ia a great while I hear a popular music talent that really turns me on. My frame of reference for excellent soul/pop music vocals/piano is always Aretha Franklin. When I first heard Whitney I got excited...because I heard in her vocals the rare ability to carry on Aretha's considerable legacy. When I first heard Alicia Keys play the piano & sing I thought that she may have the same potential. And recently the TV just happened to be on when this little girl was auditioning for some curious show singing Tina's Proud Mary. I looked up at the TV and said; "Wow...that young lady can really sing!" She was snappin' her fingers and she had a rhythm and a vocal style that was completely unique and ,of course, something that I had never heard before in all of my discoveries. Fantasia and her family, The Barrino Family, performed at my church, New Jerusalem ICM, about 1 or 2 years ago. If she remembers, they visited with Bishop James "Rudy" Brown, the son of my pastor Bishop Olive C. Brown. Even then I knew when she opened her mouth she was a star. There have been a couple of people to come out of our church to make it in the music industry. Harold Lilly, who has written numerous songs for Alicia Keys, his sister Allison Lilly, who is singing backup with "American Idol" Ruben Studdard, Luther Vandross, Brandy Monica and many others. I believe that this season is her time. One voice, one inspiration shines from that stage now and it is Fantasia's. She delivers every song from the depths of her soul. You can feel the connection, emotion and passion with which she sings. We have witnessed her power when she brought Paula Abdul and many others who we could not see to tears. Her performances render you speechless, breathless and are priceless. You can not pay for the inspiration she brings to that stage. She is an icon for single mothers who struggle everyday day to make this world a better place for their children and to achieve their goals despite setbacks and trials that life throws us. She gets up on that stage every week and represents her community, her church and namely African American women with poise, honor, and grace. If American lets this slip out of their hands, they will truly be sending home The American Idol. This competition is about the best performer. That includes singing, dancing and delivering the art the best. Fantasia, you are better than the best! You are phenomenal!!! Hey everyone, my name is Mike and I live in Newfoundland, Canada!! If I could vote for this show believe me I would have a million times already! This morning I was on my way to school and 99.1 Hits radio station played a series of Fantasia's performances and the judges' comments from last night. It was so awesome to hear her on the radio; it's definately something we'll all look forward to not soon enough! Needless so say, Fantasia is the American Idol and she is absolutly amazing. I sometimes forget that she is only 19 still and yet she has a beautiful little girl, a fabulous voice, she is hilarious and charming all at once, and has come so very far. It's true, this girl doesn't need this show at all to find a recording contract. Anyone not willing to sign her on in a matter of seconds would have to be completely out of their mind! lol Anyway, with having said all that, I look forward to tonight's show and hopefully this week everyone will see how much Fantasia deserves to be the American Idol and vote at least a 1000 times each! Besides her incredible singing and stage presence, Fantasia is TRULY AN INSPIRATION FOR ME. She teaches me to NEVER EVER EVER give up, no matter what you are facing. Let me start by saying that I have been watching American idol from day one. And By far I believe that this year 2003 is the best I have seen yet. The judges has pick Amazing talents. One in particular that's my favorite is Fantasia Burrino. This young lady is already a star and with no disrespect the American idol I feel that this competition is beneath fantasia. She has proved week after week that she need to be in the public eye. A talent like that cannot go unseen or heard. I cannot begin to say how many times this young lady brought tears and emotions out of me that I never thought I had. Fantasia captured the essence of what music is supposed to be. When this season's Idol first began, I was a die hard George Huff fan. His voice was strickly old school and I loved it. But as the season continued, I noticed something in one of the contestants that was quite lacking in the others. What I saw was talent, stage presence, and the ability to draw in an audience like a true professional. So, regardless of who wins Idol tonight, I say hats off to you, Fantasia Barrino. I admire you for your style, your professionalism, and your raw talent. No matter what I've heard or read, you are most definitely original. You've stayed true to who you are throughout the entire season, and I love you for that. Never sell yourself short. You are truly amazing, and God has blessed you with a gift and a talent to reach the hearts of many. Whether it's old school r&b, pop, or gospel, your voice transcends it all.
