I have seen many who say this is false, many who say it is true. People have called AT&T to ask. Can we vote on line? The answer seems to depend on who you talk to!
Last night showed a different trend. As we advised Fantasia fans not to be fooled into voting on line, we received some very severe comments back. I was called a moron at one point for saying that these votes did not count. Well, I finally found out why people were reacting so strongly this week! Fox 8 news had announced in North Carolina and on their website that you could vote on-line.
Below are the emails I sent out to Fox, and their responses.

...There has been a rumor flying around on the message boards for the past couple of weeks, saying that people could vote on line through the AT&T text messaging center. One of the Fantasia fans called AT&T to ask if this was valid and was told yes. When I questioned it and told her that others had called and were told they could NOT vote on line, she called again. This time she was told that votes sent in for contestants through the messaging center do NOT count.
Soooo, we started to advise people on the site not to use that page, that it was just a scam... We were pointed this page FOX8 WGHP -- Greensboro | High Point | Winston-Salem , where I found a brief bit which advised people to vote at the AT&T messaging center on-line. I couldn't believe my eyes, but there it was!!
Someone needs to get to the bottom of this! Here are some links to messages that were posted on the Fox Forum during voting...

You'll need to hit 0 several times to talk to a real person.
She went on the website with me and confirmed it.
There's also an American Idol area on AT&T's home page. If you click there, it will show you how to text vote using a cell phone.

I'm sorry to be a pain, but I am still very concerned. I do know you can text message from an AT&T phone, but please read this message from one of our frequent posters on the forum.
"They probably called AT&T wireless and one of the reps told them it works. The first rep I talked to said it worked. I called a second time and that rep also said it worked. BUT I then asked to speak to a supervisor in Web Support who explained that it DID NOT work because of the 4 digit number required to text votes. So if they got their info from a rep it may be wrong."
Please, please can you look into this further?? We love Fantasia and do not want her chances to be hurt!

You're not being a pain. It worked when I voted last night from home. But, I believe I'll stick to the phone system to make sure, since there are two different answers from AT&T.

Phone Call to AT&T Customer Care 5/19/04 at 5:40 PM
I spoke to Justin in customer care and asked to speak to a manager. He asked what the call was in reference to, and I summarized the information above for him. He spoke to the Resolution Specialist, Charm, who stated that you CANNOT vote online through the AT&T text messaging center.
Justin explained that the actual AT&T wireless website does not even have a messaging center. I gave him the url of the MyMode site so he could see for himself where we were being told to vote. I told him that there is no error message given when clicking the send button, and he confirmed that the message came up as "Message has been submitted." He stated again that this will not work.
I expressed my concern that this action will clog phone lines. He said it would not. The message would be sent over the internet to an AT&T messaging center, would sit for 72 hours, and then be dropped out of the system because it is being sent to a non-AT&T wireless telephone. Please, Fantasia fans, do not waste your time trying to vote in this manner!
So, there you have it. The Definitive answer on the confusion over on-line voting. Fantasia's phone lines were not clogged by this action, but just how many people spent their 2 hours on-line instead of dialing the telephone. Will this hurt her this evening? Only time will tell.
